A major review in the system of PhD training in Kurdistan and the rest of Iraq has long been over due. The current system is out of date and suffers from numerous obstacles, which have aided the decline in scientific research.


This is not possible for the first year students. During subsequent years, succesful students may submit their  request for consideration.


In view of Kurdistan's record on women's rights, the concept of equal opportunity is seen as a significant component in the debate about undergraduate education. The rapid increase in female students is one of the most striking features in all higher education systems. This has led to difficulties and tensions due to the underrepresentation of women among professors and lecturers. But it also opens up hopeful possibilities.


International Conference hosted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Region, the goal of this conference is to connect university departments and individual scientists with their counterparts in international centers of excellence.


Presided by Dr. Muhsin Abid Ali, advisor to the minister of education, a meeting was held in minister’s office in the capital Baghdad on Thursday July 22nd by the media committee. The committee is formed by the expertise and advisors committee at the national agency for preparation of education and teaching strategy in Iraq.


The Health and Safety team headed by Dr. Brwa Mohammad Saeed visited the universities and institutes in Sulaimania, Dahouk and Koya during the month of June 2010.

Strengthening and connecting Kurdistan region universities with developed world-class universities was emphasised recently in a
Ministry of Higher Education Council meeting.


The Quality Assurance team at the Ministry of Higher Education is following up the TQA pilot project which was implemented this Spring. The team is composed of Dr. Sherwan Noori and Miss Samira Tawfeeq..


The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Kurdistan, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)/Iraq, extends a special invitation to faculty and higher education experts to contribute to the ongoing development of higher education in Kurdistan.


On April 12 the Presidency of the University of Salahaddin organized a seminar on Teaching Quality Assurance (TQA), a process which has been implemented in certain colleges and departments in the University on a pilot basis.
