General Directorate of Projects

PMO stands for Projects Management Office. This office is affiliated directly with the Ministerial office.
The main duties and responsibilities of this directorate are to do the following.

First, Initiate scientific projects related to staff members' capacity building plus related projects, which will be presented to the Projects Evaluation High Committee for Evaluation and forwarded for final approval by HE the Minister.

Second, Evaluation of scientific projects presented to the Ministry from outside the Ministry from either the Kurdistan Region or Iraq.
Projects also might be presented from outside the country, from different universities, institutes or companies during the monthly meeting. The evaluation process will be made by the Projects
Evaluation High Committee, after finalizing the requirements of the defined project. Advice will be presented to HE the Minister for approval and for signing the agreement and/or the memorandum of understanding with a designated aide who is authorized to sign the project document for implementation.

Third, The General Directorate will apply for approval of the required budget as agreed in the project document, before implementing.

Fourth, Establishing specialized implementation committees from at least three high ranked university staff members for each approved project who will cooperate with the PMO Directorate personal in designing the required implementation action plan and following up.

Fifth,  Negotiating different project concepts with specialized staff members of universities and researching similar projectsin order to provide reasonable suggestions for HE when needed.

Sixth, Following up on day-to-day administration duties of the PMO Directorate, as well as keeping up on on-going projects such as ICARDA and KAHEAD.
